How to Clean Spilled Water Stain From Upholstery

Spilling water is a common accident that happens in households. But water tends to leave a stain on upholstery in Canberra and once dried that can be difficult to remove. There are a few methods that you can try out at home to get rid of the spilled water stains.

The method given below using white distilled vinegar is a common one. But before you start you must check what kind of upholstery fabric you have and whether the products you are using on it for stain removal are suitable.

  1. Step 1: If the upholstery is still wet from the spilled water, use a clean, dry cloth to blot the excess water. Draw out as much moisture as you can. If there is less moisture left between the fibres, then the stain will not become permanent.
  2. Step 2: Dip a clean cloth in white, distilled vinegar and wipe the stain gently. Before you do this, make sure that you test it on an inconspicuous spot. White vinegar usually does not do any damage to fabrics but it is better to check for shrinkage or colour loss before proceeding with the stain removal.
  3. Step 3: Apply the white vinegar to the spilled water stain and gently dab the spots. Work from outside the stain and move towards it but do not scrub the area. If you scrub the upholstery, you will definitely cause considerable damage to the fabric.
  4. Step 4: Once you have thoroughly applied and wiped the water stains with the white vinegar allow it to sit for a few minutes.
  5. Step 5: Take another clean cloth and wet it with water. Use this to wash off the white vinegar from the surface of the upholstery. You can also fill water in a spray bottle and spray it over the area. But make sure that you immediately wipe it with a dry towel. Do not pour water directly onto your upholstery to rinse the fabric.
  6. Step 6: Blot the affected area and repeat the rinsing process until the water stain has completely come off.
  7. Step 7: Allow the upholstery to dry completely before use. You can install fans around it to speed up the drying process.

While upholstery made out of natural fabrics can be treated with white distilled vinegar to clean soled water stains, you cannot use the upholstery cleaning in Canberra agent for other fabrics, especially synthetic ones.

If your upholstery fabric is polyester, then do not use white distilled vinegar. It will damage the fabric and you will not be able to use your upholstery any more. Instead, use steam to clean the spilled water stain.

Place a towel on the iron board and layout the fabric on top. Make sure the stain is facing downward, pressed on the towel. Spray a little water on the stain and gently iron the area. The iron should be set on the synthetic mode so that the right amount of heat is produced. Repeat this to the water stain has completely vanished. If this doesn’t work out, it is highly recommended to hire professional upholstery cleaning services of Ians Cleaning Services.
